[bau.studio] [solar work] [guestbook]
 welcome to bau><studio's solar workshop!

before you dive in, please read the general information below
and check your browsing gear ...

This web-based version of the solar workshop contains a limited edition of our solar toolbox for academic, non-commercial use. An offline version -- that runs "as is" from a local drive -- can be obtained, free of charge, by email request to Margit Pfeiffer-Rudy or by downloading from the "ITI-Web" (Austrian university website -- look for the 'solar workshop offline version' under "sonstige Unterlagen").

system requirements
To get anything done with the solar building design tools lying around the workshop, you'll need a browser that enables
  • frame viewing,
  • Java applets, and
  • JavaScripts.

IMPORTANT:
The solar toolbox was developed using the first generation of Java and is, therefore, not entirely compatible with Java 2 virtual machines. If the input panels appear illegible, check your Internet settings to make sure Java 2 is disabled. We'd also appreciate a feedback note describing any other kinds of problems, to help us continue developing and improving the solar workshop.

Internet Explorer:
Access your Internet settings (options) and open the "Advanced" settings tab (checkbox list). Remove the check from the following list item:
"Java (Sun):  Use Java 2 ..."

Netscape Communicator/Navigator:
Our apologies to Netscape users: this web-based application used to run quite well on Netscape Navigator, but the newer versions of the Communicator apparently can't handle the quantity and complexity of the toolbox applet package reliably. Repeated reloads may be necessary. If you have problems that can't be solved with a simple reload or a change in the Java settings (see above), please try it with Internet Explorer.

Declaration:
This academic web serves no commercial purposes and you, the user, will not be tracked, nor will any information about your activity here be collected for exploitation in any form.

applet check
Have a look at the square area below ... Can you see your cookie crumbling?
If not, then it could be because either
  1. the Java setting of your browser is disabled
    or
  2. you're driving an oldtimer (16-bit system).

If this animation is running, then you're all set to enter the solar workshop. Enjoy!
